Gratitude 4 Feb 2026

At age 83 I still wonder at the miracles that I receive every day. I would be lost if I had to provide my food from the ground. People who are stronger than I am carry away the garbage. I have electricity, gas, water whenever I need them. Streets and sidewalks make me functional.
Society can do much better without me than it can without farmers, service workers, engineers, educators, medical personnel, and countless others, no matter how mundane their contributions might seem to be. It is only fair that they should all be paid at least as much as I am.
My gratitude is ever grounded in this sense of appreciation and wonder. You are important to me.

Being effective 31 Jan 2026 on Facebook

An angry, cruel dictator entices me to yell back. If I am the stronger party, I will not be moved from my belief that cooperation is more powerful than confrontation. The situation calls for persuasive education, not fighting back. Being calm does not attract publicity, but it encourages friendship and avoids wasting human energy in conflict. Above all, I must not become overbearing and boisterous like the dictator. I function by my choice, not by imitating evil: I act; I do not react.
I am energized to demonstrate integrity and to promote constructive institutions and principles. To be drawn into a fight is to be distracted from my original purpose. Anger and self-righteousness disable my most powerful tool, which is to give people hope and confidence in their better selves.
